Abstract

This research performs the verification analysis in order to examine how much of the Home Education proposed in the previous research(Seok Soon, Wang & Byong Sook, Seo, 1996) is carried out in parents and how much of them children accept. The results are the followings: 1. The level of parents` performance in home education is satisfactory (3.63 points), which reflects the Korean parents` realistic desires and expectations for children`s education. The teaching contents mainly deal with the formal manners and modern familism while parents are negligent of the maintenance of family culture and value and society-related education which can provide children with foundations for the rich personality. Educations on independent living that can cultivate the independence in childhood is also neglected. 2. Mother`s level of performance in home education surpasses that of father`s in almost every areas. This result confirms the physical and psychological "absence of father" which figures as one of the problems in recent years. 3. Children`s acceptance level turns out to be relatively satisfactory(3.56/5). Children shows higher acceptance in overt behavioral areas such as filial piety and preservation of family unity which are expressed as the traditional familism. There is a gender difference in the acceptance of education related to the familism. Boys show higher level of acceptance in traditional values (filial piety, respect for the old, preservation of the family unity education). 4. There is a significant discrepancy between parent`s performance and children`s acceptance of the home education. Children`s acceptance (3.56/5) is lower than parent`s performance (3.63/5). However, classification of parents into the higher level group and lower level group reveals that children whose parents shows higher performance level exhibit higher degree of acceptance.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop the curriculum of `Family Life Education` for university level in Korea. To develop the curriculum, the first step of this research was to collect the curriculum of `Family Life Education` of universities in U. S. A. and then to evaluate them. The second step was to interview the CFLEs to gather the information and the opinions about those curriculum of universities. The last step was to develop the curriculum of `Family Life Education` for university in Korea. The proposed curriculum consisted of three categories, theoretical subjects, Family Life Education subjects, and practicums. The theoretical subjects were as follows: Human Development, The Family, Family Relations, Korean Family, Family and Sexuality, Family Resource Management, Family Welfare Policy, Family Law , and Family Ethics. The Family Life Education subjects were Family Life Education, Parent Education, The Advanced Family Life Education, The Program Construction Methods in Family Life Education, and The Evaluation of Family Life Education Programs. And the practicums were Family Life Education Practicum, The Practicum in the Methods of Family Life Education Program Construction, and The Practicum in the Evaluation of Family Life Education Program.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the utility of the revised Conflict Tactics Scales(CTS2) on Korean couples. As results of tests(correlation, factor analysis, Cronbach` α), reliability of subscales of CTS2 range from .64 to .94 and total reliability of CTS2 is .90. And there are preliminary evidences of construct validity ; the convergent validity and discriminant validity of CTS2. Then we examine the prevalence of wife abuse behavior in our sample. There are the high prevalencies of psychological aggression(90.3%), physical assault(52.5%), and sexual coercion(47.5%)

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to investigate the degree of self-differentiation and the relationship between the degree of self-differentiation and conflict-coping behaviors. The results were summarized as follows; 1. The degree of self-differentiation was medium level of both husbands and wives. The degree was significantly high for husbands compared with that for wives. 2. As for behaviors of conflict-coping, most surveyed couples answered reasonable countering while the use of physical power was their last method of coping conflicts. Wives resort to external help or reliance on religion more than husbands do. Exercises of physical power were used more by husbands than wives. 3. There were significant differences in the degree of self-differentiation and conflict-coping behaviors according to back ground variables. 4. There was significant relation between the degree of self-differentiation and conflict -coping behaviors, and that one of the spouses whose self-differentiation was relatively low uses more evasion and exercises of physical power.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of involvement on infant care after transition to parenthood in dual earner families, and to explore the associated variables affecting on infant care involvement. For this purpose, the empirical sample testing was conducted using structured questionnaires with 197 dual earner couples. The major findings were as follows : First, in general, wive`s level of involvement on infant care was higher than that of husbands. Second, the traditional sex role attitude limits the level of involvement on infant care of husband. Third, in case of husbands, wives` age, degree of job importance have some effect on level involvement. For wives, however, the perceptions of services support to infant care and sex role attitude affected the level of infant care involvement. So the sex role attitude is the most influential common factor for couples.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to measure the effectiveness of the Couple Communication Program(CCP) with Korean couples. The subjects were 25 married couples for pretest and posttest, and were 11 married couples for follow-up measure 6 weeks later. The couples were living in Seoul and Kyunggi-do province. The major results were as follows : CCP had a positive effect on marital communication behavior immediately after the program, but this effect partially diminished at follow-up. Especially the positive changes of wives` talking and couples` listening behavior were significantly decreased. CCP had also positive impacts on the improvement of couples` knowledge, attitude and thought, and on wives` self-esteem, husbands` depression and couples` marital relationship. These positive effects maintained at follow-up.

Abstract

This paper deals with kin relations of families of orphans caused by traffic accidents. In spite of the high rate of traffic accidents, the situation of orphans caused by them has rarely been studied. Two purposed are pursued in this paper: the nature of kin relations manifested at family crises such as traffic accidents, and urging the public attention to the problems of orphans caused by traffic accidents. Two kinds of data are anaysed for the study: 483 records of the familial situation and 31 cases of orphans caused by traffic accidents. Results of the study are as follow. Firstly, in most cases kins do not offer substanialsupport at family crisis. Secondly, those kins offering support tend to be close relatives,mostly within the third degree. Thirdly, it turns out that patrilineal kins give more support than other kinds of kins when the family meets crisis like traffic accidents. Lastly, the governmental support for the needy families is minimal. it is strongly urged that families of orphans caused by traffic accidents be treated with special funds.
